Siberian Husky puppy training starts from day one. The very first day you bring your puppy home, you should be handling her, talking to her and calling her over to you. Husky puppies are cute; it’s tempting to just hold them and play with them. Of course, you should definitely do that, and do it a lot. But, pay attention to how you are interacting with your new puppy. Siberian Huskies are exceptionally intelligent dogs; they pay attention and have a really good memory.

Siberian Husky puppy training is based on interaction. You must engage their minds and keep them engaged. All that means is that you should make the time you spend with your husky puppy interesting. Play with her, talk to her and encourage her to look at and inspect new things.

When you interact with your puppy, don’t encourage behaviors that you may not want him to engage in later. For example, if you want to keep all your shoes in one piece, don’t give her old shoes to chew on. A dog cannot distinguish between old shoes and your new, expensive, designer shoes. Also, puppies tend to inspect things with their mouths, which means your puppy will probably try to chew on you. Don’t let him! He will learn that it’s okay to bite you. When he starts to get "mouthy," don’t get angry, just tell him "no" in a firm voice and give him a chew toy. He will learn that chew toys are for chewing on and hands are for petting.

Service Animals and Your LeaseService Animals and Your Lease

Many citizens with handicaps or health care challenges usually rely on service dogs for help with their every day lives. Service dogs improve the quality of living for a lot of citizens with handicaps.

Property owners that keep up a no cat plan may not decline to rent or stop a physically challenged tenant from owning a service pet within the rental grounds. Federal law enforcement does not make it a requirement for the pet that gives the help to be a dog; even though generally service dogs seem to be. There are 3 valuable points to think about whilst renting to a physically challenged party with a service pet.

1. Service dogs, therapy dogs, or pet aides all fall into the same class under government law.

2. Service dogs are not pets and therefore can not be deemed as such. Property owners who have strict no cat guidelines may not enforce them in regards to service dogs.

3. Assistance dogs are going to be covered under the Fair Housing Amendments Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehab Act Section 504. Get familiar with these legalities!

Under the Fair Housing Act, personnel with handicaps who are accompanied by a service pet are a covered group. To be an human being covered under the Fair Housing Act; that tenant must have a handicap as outlined by the act; the service pet must have a direct function related to the person’s physical challenge and the demand to maintain the service pet must be agreeable.

According to 43 U.S.C. – 4568 (c)(4)(C), a property owner should make adequate accommodations for a physically challenged renter to be able to make use of and take pleasure in a rental building on an equivalent basis with occupants who are not physically challenged. For example, if a renter desires to have safety bars built in the bath-tub, a property owner may not refuse to make these kinds of accommodations.

What can a property owner do to avoid non physically challenged people from using the law to house an ordinary house cat? However, there is no law or directive that gives information on what the property owner may or may not do. Only a court decision could actually conclude whether a property owner should allow a particular pet.

A property owner may ask for evidence that a service pet is just that but a property owner must be very careful in how the renter is questioned. By no means ask a renter whether he/she is physically challenged, what kind of handicap he has or how serious the handicap is. There can clearly be no discrimination ever! All people with a handicap who require a service pet must be allowed to have that pet no matter what race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin under the Fair Housing Act.

Apart from being safer and more visible on an evening walk, a dog vest will also make your pet the height of fashion. Active pups and animals that are walked often would love a fashionable dog vest. A dog vest is just right for all pooches that are walked a lot, as dog sweaters and pet shirts might be better for animals that stay inside most of the time.

It’s not easy to find a good selection of dog vests by looking long and hard, you will eventually find some good ones.

A vest can serve as a great waistcoat or harness that attaches nicely to your leash or lead. It makes much more sense to get your pet a vest that can be easily attached to a leash or lead. Your animal will love you for getting him a dog vest that won’t pull on his throat and limit his breathing while on a walk.

As the season changes your pooch is probably going to feel much warmer in a warm winter pet jacket, don’t you think?

Some people get pet robes, jackets and vests confused. Most animal owners put their pet in a vest when taking long walks or just hiking. All sizes and many different fabrics are available for any breed of dog. Not only will a pet vest accommodate your pets leash, the reflective tapes will keep him safe at night. Having a animal life vest for your precious pet, is very important when around any type of water. Then there are training and dog services vests which are what Seeing Eye dogs wear. Lastly there are even animal hunting vests or hiking vests, some of which have places to store water and are perfect for taking long hikes.

Dog Agility Training – is Your Dog Ready For It?

Some may believe that all dogs are naturally agile and fit. Why would they need agility training? After all, they are able to run, jump and chase balls or Frisbees, so what could some dog agility equipment and training do for them?

While it’s true that most dogs are naturally gifted athletes in their own right, agility training means more than training dogs to sit, run or jump. Dogs have very muscular bodies in proportion to their weight. These physical characteristics make them able to run fast, jump high, and perform many other spectacular stunts. Some of these stunts require agility training in order for the dogs to learn how to do certain stunts or perform certain tasks when their owners say a particular command.

Dog agility training can also improve speed and overall time for an obstacle course and it can teach the dogs how to perform some stunts in a specific way. This type of training is particularly useful for show dogs that need to run, jump or maintain a certain pace to meet the show’s requirements. Show dogs and owners must also be in step while following a certain obstacle course in a predetermined order. Learning how to do these tasks is already difficult to start with, and dogs must also learn to do these things in a specific way, at a particular speed, following a particular command or signal, etc.

Agility training makes show dogs fun and interesting to watch but before you sign your dog up for some training, you should consider a few things. First, most schools only accept dogs that are at least 18 months old as younger dogs are still growing and developing. Trying to force young dogs to learn different stunts can impede their growth or cause some long-term damage. It’s also important to consider your pet’s physical characteristics. Smaller dogs with short legs aren’t necessarily the best jumpers and larger dogs may have problems crawling through tunnels and other small spaces. A good dog agility school takes all these things into consideration and can adjust its training to meet the needs of your dog, based on his size and breed. Similarly, if you decide to train your dog by yourself, you should keep these factors in mind.

Some owners assume that agility training should include punishment whenever a dog doesn’t perform as well as it should. Experts in dog agility training know that rewarding dogs is much more effective than punishing them it when they don’t perform as expected. Giving treats to your dog, petting him, playing with him and his favorite toys are all great rewards that can be used to let your dog know how proud you are of his performance. Agility training should be fun for the dog and the owner. It should never be a chore or cause trauma to the dog or the owner.

You should remember that not all dogs will respond the same way to dog agility training. Some breeds are naturally skittish or hyper and it may be difficult to teach these dogs to jump and run on command. Don’t let your dreams get the best of you.

Is dog training important? Yes! Why? Imagine such situation, you have bought beautiful small puppy. You and your children love it very much. But when it is bigger and you have to go out on a walk with him the problems start. He is still barking at the other dogs. You almost cannot keep him on a leash because he is still running from one side of the road to another. When you come back home, it is not the end. Your best shoes look like old, cheap gym shoes because now they are your dogs favorite toy to chew. Your garden…oh you even don’t want to think about your garden and all holes made there.

Okay, this story is a little bit exaggerated. I’m sure all that things won’t happen to you in the same moment or at all. Training you dog is rewarding. Especially, if you do it yourself because there will be very strong relationship between you and your dog. At the end of the article you can find some useful links which will help you to train your dog fast and without stress.

Now, when you know why dog training is important it is time for some tips on topic of most common dog behavior problems. As far as I know usually people don’t know what to do when their dog is a) barking b) chewing c)digging. I said "don’t know" because many people take an action like biting, closing in a bathroom etc. which makes thing only worse. Here are some solutions and tips what to do.

Barking is a normal behavior for a dog and you cannot force him to stop barking at all. Barking in dog’s world is normal form of communication. Your pet barks because he wants to get an attention of other dogs, because he alerts that there is a person walking by or a dog entering his territory or he is simply bored and he do it for fun. If he starts to do it once you can be sure he will do it again. Treat for barking is very simple. You have to play with your dog, exercise him, provide with some fun things like chew toys etc. Don’t keep him all the time in the back yard, let him to enter the house, he has to feel that he is a part of a family. Of course you can train your dog to be quiet. Use command "stop barking", when the dog doesn’t bark for few seconds give him a treat, when he will bark another time say "stop barking" and if he stop for a moment give him a treat. Timing is very important in this exercise, first time give him a treat after 3 seconds of silence than after 5 seconds and than after 10 seconds etc.

Chewing is a part of life of every puppy owner. Puppies has to chew when they are teething and it’s normal. You have to provide your dog with some special toys he can chew. If you don’t have access to any toys you can give your pup a cold carrot to chew or freeze chicken broth in ice cube trays. If nothing helps use Bitter Apple spray to deter him from chewing. If your dog is an adult and still chew furniture and clothes. There is a big possibility he is doing it because he is bored or nervous. The best thing is to exercise and play with him.

Digging, dogs dig from variety of reasons, some do it because boredom, it’s the easiest case you only have to provide him with other type of entertainment. Some of them do it because they want to escape or they want catch some animal living underground. The best thing you can do is prevention. Try concrete or wire mesh buried under the fence where he is getting out. When he is only digging holes in the garden you can train him not to do it. When you see that your dog start to dig turn on a sprinkler in the place where he is digging. If you don’t have a sprinkler you can use a water pistol. Important: dog cannot know you are punishing him, pretend that the sprinkler turned on automatically.

Are you sick and tired of waking up to find another good pair of shoes all chewed out? Do you hate having people over because you just know they’ll get slobbered all over or worse? Are the water puddles and poop mounds around the house finally getting to your nerves? If you are, then it’s time to get some dog training in your house.

In home dog training services are getting more popular these days. Pet owners, while they would like to train their dogs themselves, either don’t have the time or don’t know how to. Professional trainers are called in to do the job for them. The owners get to watch their dog’s progress in the convenience and privacy of their houses. If you are considering having your pet educated at home, here are five important things you need to ask before you call the dog trainer.

What level of obedience does your canine qualify for? If he already has a modicum of dog manners, this means you already have had some success in dog training and you may want to consider following it up yourself. However, if you correctly asses yourself incapable of teaching your pet anything, then have the professional over as soon as possible.

Where can I find good trainers? The best gauge is the work itself. Do you have neighbors and friends who’ve had transformed pets and swear by the services of a particular dog whisperer? If not, they probably know someone who does. There are also companies that specialize in dog behavior modification and obedience training you can check out. You can leaf through the yellow pages or surf in the internet to find these people that will offer you the right services at the best price.

What do I look for in a good trainer? The most important thing in a trainer is his method of teaching the dog. Any form of violence or yelling or undue force should not be tolerated under any circumstances. Ask for records or referrals you can personally inspect for yourself. While there are no official animal training government licenses, most trainers have undergone certified courses to equip them in their in home dog training profession. A CDT or CDTA certification from the International Association of Canine Professionals is one of the best qualifications they can have.

Which is better: individual or group classes? One-on-one sessions will ensure that your pet gets all the attention and teaching concentrated on him. It will probably help him learn faster. Group classes on the other hand, will help the dog further develop social skills with others of his own kind. If the trainer is good, he will be able to customize his teaching to each student’s learning curve. It will also be better economically for more people to pitch in and share the expense of their dog’s education. If you prefer group classes, form one with pet owners you know who take good care of their pets – with all the rough housing that’s bound to happen, you wouldn’t want your own infected with fleas or other kinds of infection.

What age should training begin? Right now! The optimal time to start training puppies is at 8 weeks old. However, it’s never too late to teach adult dogs basic commands and progress from there. If you are willing and your dog is present, it can be done. Through in home dog training, a safe and easy way to a well-trained dog is possible.

Dog Training Tips – How to Stop Your Dog From Peeing on People

For one, they may do this to claim someone they like and want to "keep". Marking this person discourages other dogs from attempting to stake their own claim. Younger dogs pee from excitement at playtime invitations or during greetings, especially if you have been absent for a long time. Generally, if you keep greetings low-key, your dog will grow out of it.

Dogs may also pee to express submission. This generally occurs when a younger dog feels insecure, frightened or threatened. Shelter dogs that have been abused tend to submissively pee when they are being shown affection, because they are desperate for approval, and feel the need to show their respect.

Submissive peeing can also occur when your dog is being disciplined and she senses your unhappiness or when she’s approached by someone she finds it strange or frightening. You can help your dog overcome this with confidence-building tactics, such as obedience training and dog agility, where your dog can have fun, succeed in a job and become desensitized to other people on a regular basis. You can also play fun and simple games in which you let the dog win and then praise her for it. The longer she is with you, the more she will trust you and the less insecure she will become.

To help save your floors, invite your dog to come to the porch to greet you, so urine won’t ruin your entryway. At the entry, put down an absorbent rug that can be safely soiled and then thrown into the wash.

Some tips to help your dog gain control:

· Greet your dog in a non-excited, casual way when entering the home and don’t pay too much attention to her.

· Never lean or tower over your dog when greeting her. This can be very intimidating. Rather, crouch down and pet her chest, instead of the top of her head.

· Avoid prolonged eye contact, as this is also intimidating. Look around. Just glance at her while interacting.

· Distract her from submissiveness. Throw her a toy or a ball when you walk through the door.

· Always use a calm, happy tone of voice.

Socialization – The Key Benefit of Group Dog Training Class

There are a number of snobbish, self-important dog trainers who look down on group dog training classes. A few of the feeble grounds they claim private class surpass group class are; in a group class:

Your dog won’t get the attention you are paying for

Your dog will be easily distracted by the other dogs and people

Dogs prefer the one-on-one attention

You will be humiliated by your dog

It’s a waste of time, your dog won’t learn anything

It’s too hot, it’s too cold, it’s too wet

Nonsense! Fact is, dogs being pack animals, benefit significantly from attending group training. They are inherently social animals. Socialization with people; young, old, male and female, as well as other dogs, is the fundamental ingredient in the development of a healthy, well-adjusted, well-mannered dog. Dogs learn from watching and "networking" with dogs!

Dogs that are over protected and isolated from interacting with other dogs, people, new experiences and locations, ultimately develop inappropriate behavior problems. That makes for a very unhappy, fearful, neurotic, unpredictable pet. Modifying a behavior problem, is where dog training gets expensive.

Don’t use weather as an excuse. Yes, it may be hot, cold, or raining. So what! Most classes last approximately an hour. You will survive! Yes, at times you may be self-conscious of your dog’s progress, but that’s YOUR fault. You didn’t put the time into training that week. Yes, there are distractions, but let’s get real, the world is full of all kinds of interesting distractions for dogs. Yes, they make new friends, and astute owners see this and arrange play dates for their dogs to continue their friendships. Being in a group class helps desensitize them to many distractions. As for getting the attention you need, for your dog’s sake, find a competent trainer who applies positive reinforcement, punishment-free training, who can focus on more than one dog at a time. Find classes limited to 8-10 dogs. A first rate, experienced trainer has no problem handling that many dogs.

Author: Karen Soukiasian

If you absolutely, positively insist on private lessons, or due to certain circumstances cannot enroll in a group class, fine, go ahead, go private. But, when you are done thinking about YOUR needs, step outside of yourself, and consider what is best for your dog… SOCIALIZATION!

Ok, all things considered, let’s suppose that you still want a dog, then you must pay attention to the following questions.

Second, what is the right Service Dog breed for autistic people?

These dog breeds are recommended for people on the autism spectrum, Newfoundland, bloodhound, border collie, Yellow Labs, golden retriever or other highly intelligent breed. Many large dogs are great with kid, gentle and peaceful. Try to avoid small dogs. I cannot say which breed is the best for children with autism, after all every autistic person is different. You may need to hire an animal behavioral consultant to pick up a dog with you and your child. You can choose several most gentle dogs and bring them outside to meet your child to see which one can socialize with her/him best.

Third, how to pick up an autism service dog?

Proper training is the key in an autism service dog. Official service dogs are strictly trained on how to behave with people. Also, the match of the personality of the dog and the child is very important.
